Hi everyone,

I have Couch downloaded and within the web folder Aurelius. I am going to follow the tutorial - building a real world site.

When I try to view the admin panel to log in (I type in 'localhost/couch' into the browser I get the Error Massage attached.

I have added the details in the config.php file correctly (also attached), at least I believe I have.

I have XAMPP on my c:drive and the Aurelius folder within the htdocs folder. The couch folder sits just inside the Aurelius folder. I believe this is all correct but please can someone let me know if they think I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance :-)

Marc

Hi and welcome, Marc.

Regarding the error you posted -
can you confirm that Apache is able to find your htdocs folder? I mean, is the URL http://localhost/ (no couch here) showing the index page?
If not, you'll have to make changes to XAMPP Apache config file to set the document root.

Anyways, since you are a Windows user, I suggest you better download and use the portable Couch version available from http://www.couchcms.com/products/ (you'll have to scroll to the bottom to see the link).
It is a fully configured stack (includes IonCube and Couch) and you'll just need to unzip it and start using.

Hope this helps.
Hi KK,

thanks so much for your reply.

Yes when I type in http://localhost I get the the XAMP control panel.

When I type in http://localhost/aurelius/index.html I get the Aurelius home page.

It's just when I type http://localhost/couch I don't get the admin panel.

I'll download that configured stack you gave the link for and see if that helps. I'll probably be back with more questions on Couch since it's the first time I'll have used it.

Basically I'm a Creative Designer with over 17 years' experience in design for print, I got into coding and front end development about 4 year's ago. I never got into PHP, although I do understand how the whole back-end side of things works, I've never actually learnt the practise of creating databases and CMS sites. I don't have a blog or use Wordpress, tand I believe I've lost out on a few projects since I can't create a site as a CMS.

I have a new client though who has this requirement so I scoured the net for a solution which would mean I could build the site responsively with HTML, CSS etc and have it work as a fully funtional CMS for the client to edit and add text and images and create new pages form templates etc without having to be an expert in backend devlopment or PHP.

I found a link to Couch CMS, read through the documentation and it all looks like exactly what I've been looking for. So that's great. I have 4 weeks or so to design and build this site so as I say will probably need your help as I go along from time to time. :-)

Thanks again anyway.

Kind regards,

Marc

Marc, you are exactly the kind of person Couch was built for :)
I'm sure the portable version of Couch will make things very very easy for you. It has got everything (including the database) ready and configured.

Please feel absolutely free to post in any/all questions that occur to you :)
Yeah I know, I'm VERY happy about this, since it means I can not oonly offer clients a high quality creative and front end service, using all of my skills and experience in design for print, branding etc and front end design and development, but can also add a good, bespoke CMS service as well.

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. :-)

The couch folder sits inside the Aurelius folder.

So you have to call localhost/aurelius/couch to see the login page.
