Some changes were made to Couch for trying to rectify the cache problem. However, those were only done in the v2.x branch - your 1.4.7 installation is still likely to exhibit it.
Since it is likely that upgrading to the latest version is not an option, I have tried to incorporate the relevant changes in 1.4.7 files and am attaching them here.
Please overwrite the existing files on your system with these patched ones.
I haven't actually tried these out but, I believe, they should do the trick.
