I need to horizontaly center on page images inserted via the built-in richtext editor. Unfortunately it has only Left and Right alignment options. Is there a workaround for centering images?

It's done! I used css to center the image. Now every time an image is inserted from richtext editor it's displayed centered horizontally.

CKEditor also supports adding CSS classes to the images. This could also help in styling them in any desired manner.

Yes, I realized this too late I was looking for some automation to help final user handle images as simple as possible.
