interesting re the critical order of the generated .htaccess file - in the past I have copied and pasted a new template into the htaccess file as a short cut and found it didn't work ... so went through the process correctly - so getting to the right answer without knowing why! Now I do.

Thanks Kamran. I would never have figured this out on my own. Like @potato, I was just copying and pasting to add a new template rather than generating the htaccess again. I had no idea the order would make a difference.

Thank you both for letting me know that! I had no idea people would resort to adding template entries manually in .htaccess.
I think I should add a warning in the docs regarding this practice.
