I don't think that is a problem. It remains a fine piece of software, nevertheless.
We probably won't see new features being added to it but the one that are present are more than sufficient for our purpose.
And since now it would become a part of Couch, the maintenance of it will be our responsibility. So you should rest assured

I don't think that is true. I am on XP with IE7(!) and it works just fine. It doesn't work on IE6 (without an addon) but then does that matter any longer?
Finally, it would be available as an 'addon'. So, one would be free not to use it if he finds it unsuitable for his needs.
No harm in having an alternative
