Hi everybody :)

Couch v2.0 beta (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10241) has been around for sometime now and soon it will transition to become the main version available for download.

With that happening, I think, we'll need an updated tutorial to replace our 'Aurelius' (http://docs.couchcms.com/tutorials/portfolio-site.html) http://docs.couchcms.com/tutorials/portfolio-site.html.

Couch has come a long way since the first tutorial was released nearly five years back. Although, v2.0 manages to be 100% backward compatible with the Aurelius tutorial, a lot of new features have made into the core since then (repeatable-regions, relations, extended-users, databound-forms to name a few).

We need a new tutorial that would encompass most (if not all) of those later features.

I need our community's help here.
I'd appreciate if you could post in your suggestions about open-source static HTML/JS/CSS designs that you think would be good candidates for our new tutorial.

Awaiting your replies :)

CSS3 Seascape Two is a nice template. It's got several opportunities for repeatable regions, and you could make some actual pages in the dropdown for a relations example.

@Mako88, with all respect, thanks for being the first and suggesting something. But seriously? Eww, such an outdated template for a brief tutorial would be the last nail :) Especially when Aurelius Tutorial (which existence is the reason why people and me got into Couch) will be replaced (as @KK said) with that half-baked noncence :).

P.S.: I wonder why this thread even appeared. We already see the consequences of 180-turn to committee-decision-making and outsourcing. It can be only worse now.

P.P.S.: Open-source (literally) doesn't mean 'free' and probably @KK wants both 'open-source' and 'free'. I bet most designers drop using anything 'free' after a couple of attempts (stock images, html/css dev kits etc.) Looking for free stuff is setting the bar pretty low. The above example is the utter demonstration of the wrongest philosophy of latest Couch-everything. Probably with current trends it now deserves something like that ridiculous CSS3 template in late 2016, 2017 and following years of duty and service. It doesn't feel Bentley anymore, better say Tata is what's coming, guys...........

why not use http://foundation.zurb.com/sites.html for this ?

easy to use and great documentation.
I load frameworks and write bugs on top of them, after that I rearrange the code so that it looks like a cool product.

@anton,

@KK wants both 'open-source' and 'free'
I want something like Aurelius (which, if I am not mistaken, is open-source and free. Right?). A look at https://html5up.net/ should convince you about the quality of the current crop of such templates.

That said, from the negativity in the tone of your post it is clear something is eating you.
Instead of speaking in innuendos, I think it'd be better if you could spell it out clearly.

We already see the consequences of 180-turn to committee-decision-making and outsourcing. It can be only worse now.
Could you explain that point in more detail? What was that '180-turn'? And what are the consequences that you have seen?

Hoping to have a healthy discussion.

@KK, HTML5UP? That's what I am talking about - the bar keeps getting lower, outdated things are introduced all over the places.

Hoping to have a healthy discussion.

You are a master of aftermath discussions, which are pretty meaningless after you guys are getting rid of everything that I loved about CouchCMS. Now it comes to be Aurelius. With such blatant disrespect to community that any recent and coming changes are bringing, I see it as if all the trees are being cut off in the park I loved and lived nearby.

There should be laws requiring consent to change something of common use (even if it belongs to someone) from people that got used to it. That's a figure of speech but it means that I don't see this place as cool and fun anymore. With all chaos that comes to CouchCMS (which people know and don't know about) it actually questions the code quality of CMS at all. Probably it's not like it used to be.

I'm opting out of any further discussions and I will go live my life happily, help people with coding in latest stable release and hope to never be forced to come this place or touch couchcms 2.0 release.

Wish everybody (with exquisite or vulgar taste) be happy and in demand :D

Adding to the above:

if I am not mistaken, is open-source and free

You are mistaking PREMIUM product - Aurelius - which was carefully designed to be a good premium template selling for profit and that later turned free by the will of the creator (and after some good sales) - to HTML5UP and other 'free' templates - half-baked, FREE product which lacks premium care, feeling or class, because it was designed to be free and never could come closer to anything valuable.

Perhaps I've been out of the loop, but this is the first I've heard of you (@trendoman) having any issue with CouchCMS 2.0. What do you not like about it? How has its quality dropped? You say the Couch team has gotten rid of everything you loved about it...what things have been gotten rid of?

Also...just because something is free, doesn't make it poor quality. The majority of open source projects in all categories are free, and in my experience, many open source projects have better support and quality than closed sourced ones (See: the entire Linux world ;) ).

I understand if you don't like the template that I recommended...aesthetics does have a lot to do with personal preference. But I'm not sure what you mean by "outdated" and "half-baked"...it's CSS3 and HTML5 compliant which are the latest web standards.

As @KK said, I'd like some healthy discussion. I want to be clear that I don't mean anything I've said to come across as offensive or in any way demeaning you, I'm legitimately curious what issues you have with Couch.

I like this template very much. It's free to use and to adapt. Bootstrap based.
