Hi,

I just recently saw the beautiful job that "cheesypoof" did on the Admin UI, and read some posts to the effect that it was going to be incorporated into the next update (at the time v1.4.5).

Unfortunately, it didn't happen, and I was wondering if there is any timeline on this UI (or any other updated UI design) being rolled into Couch?

Apologies if this question retreads old ground. I haven't been here long, so I'm not fully up to speed.
Thanks for any insight!

Ric
All the voices are heard :)

Some designers I talked to find it outdated already.
It lacks proper UI experience and worsens now-present aspects.

I personally find it horrible and not beautiful. However it will be shipped as a sample look in 2.0beta pretty soon.

We will be able to create any design of admin area that we like.

Hi, Ric. Yes, this ground has been worn smooth by supplicants begging for the new admin panel and other features of the fabled update, now known as v2.0. :)

To summarize, @cheesypoof's admin panel redesign was meant to accompany a sweeping update that involved not just the admin panel redesign, but also an overhaul of all of the underlying code to make the entire CMS more powerful and customizable. Some time ago @KK apologized to everyone and to @cheesypoof in particular for the delay. He released a partial update (including some truly awesome new features - thanks, @KK!), but leaving out the admin panel redesign. (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8581)

It turned out that rewriting the code in the way that @KK envisioned was a much bigger and more complex undertaking than expected and it's still not finished. The admin panel redesign was just an innocent bystander of that much bigger delay. :(

The good news is that while there is no release date, the update is progressing and @KK assures us it is very nearly complete. We don't know when it will be ready, but we can now say it will be sooner rather than later. :D

In the meantime, @cheesypoof also created a responsive admin panel theme that is very nice and it is compatible with the current version of Couch. I use it as a matter of course on my sites. (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6962)
@Tim, I couldn't have explained the situation any better myself :) Thanks.

@riczito, v2.0 has become an all-consuming affair for me. Trust me, I dedicate over 5 hours *daily* to it and have been doing this sincerely for, I can't remember, last so many months.

To be honest, I had no idea what I was getting into when I started on this venture of a complete overhaul.
Thankfully, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Hopefully it shouldn't be long now before 2.0 makes its debut.
@KK After reading this thread, I thought I'd say it here - When 2.0 does debut will you be emailing all license holders to let them know? I have much work waiting on V2 and don't want to miss a day! Heh
:D But seriously, being one of the few on the forum who have taken a deep look at couch, we can all agree that the job to make the changes you intend is a big one and we thank you for spending so much time on it and trying your best to get it ready.

Two weeks ago I've started building a new admin theme for Couch version 1.4.5.
The layout of the admin is spread across different files and it's a puzzle to fit the new theme into the couch code. I understand better now why KK is overhauling his code and why this takes the time is taking now.

The theme it not finished yet I need some more time but with a little community effort and help from KK we can turn the old not responsive design into something fresh looking with a nice UI.

Why AdminLTE?
- It has a nice and clean look
- based on bootstrap (at the moment v3 but v4 is coming
- active community
- open source

@Tim the responsive layout Cheesypoof does have some issues with v1.4.7

Let me know what you think so far.
Hi Gizmo. I like what you've done with this admin panel template. Of course it suffers from that age-old problem: "not done yet".

As far as getting some community effort on this project, I think you'll get better results if you can be more specific about the help or input you could use. I think this forum does represent a very capable and helpful community. But the limiting factor for a group effort tends to come down to leadership and organization.

One of the things I like best about @cheesypoof's older responsive theme is that it is fairly easy to customize. Not just by changing the theme between a choice of colors as in this template, but by injecting custom CSS through a dedicated customize.css file. I hope that the new admin panel theme will have that feature as well, along with accessible class names and id's in the markup for attaching custom CSS. I like to match the theme of the admin panel to the site's theme. I think that sort of seamless coordination by itself makes the panel more attractive and easier to use. For example:

custom-css.png (65.96 KiB) Viewed 3447 times
If I might be permitted to chip in -
I'd suggest to save all efforts on any custom admin design for just a short while more.

The v2.0 admin-panel has been designed specifically to be tweaked, overridden or even completely supplanted by custom designs. I think the community's efforts would be better served in creating new designs for that version.

So, just a liiiitle time more :)
